9 March 2018 05:07 pm Words : Kamanthi Wickramasinghe Pics : Nirmala Dhananjaya A drive uphill along Sangaraja Mawatha passing the Malwatte Maha Viharaya, Kandy will bring you to Hotel Suisse. One cannot miss its beautifully landscaped lawn and the colonial structure standing tall. Moving away from the hustle and bustle of the city, a stay at Hotel Suisse will be an absolute stress-reliever. While in Kandy, the LW team visited the Hotel and here’s what we found out!

History

This colonial property perched on a five acre land offering splendid views of the Kandy Lake dates back to the 18th century. Once a residence for the Chief Minister of the Royal Granary, the property was then acquired by the British before it was sold to a Swiss Lady by the name Madam Burdayron. She then ran it as a guest house and after some time the Hotel was eventually known as the existing ‘Hotel Suisse’.

Accommodation

While walking through this elegantly renovated property we walked into a Deluxe room with a Lake view. Other than the breathtaking views this room is quite spacious with all modern facilities including satellite TV, A/C, cupboard including a safety locker, mini-Bar, working table and a bathroom with modern toiletries. Other categories include Standard Deluxe and Suites. One cannot miss Lord Mountbatten’s Suite situated next to his photo, taking you back to the days of the British. In this suite, a four-poster bed along with modern facilities and a separate seating area awaits to provide maximum comfort for its guests. All categories sum up to 90 rooms within this property.
