Three Days in Kandy, The Sacred City

It took us around three hours from Colombo and we set off along high level road and took the route through Avissawella. This is a very green road, and gives you a glimpse of the village life along the way. The thembili (king coconut drink) was very refreshing once we passed Kegalle. Our first night was at the Thilanka Hotel Kandy, with its magnificent views of the City of Kandy including the Sri Dalada Maligawa, where the Sacred Tooth Relic of the Buddha lies. The Hotel Manager Mr. Thimathy Paldono had graciously reserred their best duit for us. The suite was very spacious and comfortable. I immediately helped myself to the fresh fruits lying on the coffee table which was a complimentary gesture by the hotel as lunch seemed ages away since I had it, and my tummy was reminding me of that fact. There were also tea and coffee making facilities in the spacious suite which was a very welcoming sign. As it was a family trip, there was an adjoining double bedroom next to the suite. It was getting cooler now and after a heavenly hot shower in the large athroom with a sauna and a change before dinner, I opened the curtains and looked out. I was stunned at the views of Kandy City.
