The annual celebration of World Environment Day on June 5 promotes environmental consciousness and advocacy. It is the premier United Nations awareness day promoting the environment and is endorsed by numerous NGOs, corporations, and government institutions.

The natural world is in crisis mode, and time is running out. The yearly output of greenhouse gases must be cut in half by the year 2030 if global warming is to be kept within 1.5°C this decade. Without intervention, the percentage of people exposed to unsafe levels of air pollution will rise by 50 percent in the next decade, and the amount of plastic debris entering aquatic habitats would almost treble by 2040.
These are critical problems that require immediate attention. However, it’s encouraging to know that going green doesn’t have to be time-consuming, costly, or inconvenient for most people. It could be a fun challenge to try at home or at the office. Here are several ways you could contribute to saving the planet and doing your part in keeping Mother Earth protected and well maintained.
