What inspired you to start Priyaashanker Salon?
I began Priyaashanker Salon with a very personal purpose: to achieve financial independence and to prove that women can create and run successful businesses. At the time, I did not set out to build an empire. I simply wanted to build something of my own - something meaningful. I believed that if I could succeed, I could inspire other women in Sri Lanka to step forward with confidence and pursue entrepreneurship without fear. From the outset, my vision extended beyond income. I wanted to create a space where women felt safe, respected, and empowered. Beauty, to me, has never been just about appearance. It is about dignity, confidence and self-worth.
How did your journey begin?
My journey started in 2002 in the most modest way imaginable - with a single chair, a bed, a mirror and one assistant in a small home garage. Although I was professionally trained in corporate secretariat and accountancy, my heart was always drawn to culture, the arts and self-care. That passion quietly waited for its moment, and eventually I gave it life through the salon. Those early days required courage. I had no grand infrastructure, only determination and belief. Step by step, client by client, trust began to grow. Over time, that tiny garage evolved into multiple branches, an academy aligned with City & Guilds and NVQ Sri Lanka, and later an organic beauty product line. Each milestone was earned through resilience and consistency.
