Rising Diabetes in Sri Lanka a silent killer

Words : Prabha Rupasinghe According to the recent statistics by Sri Lankan Health Ministry - One in five adults has either diabetes or pre-diabetes. One-third of those with diabetes are undiagnosed. A little over 10% of population in Sri Lanka now have diabetes, and women outnumber men. This is a startling revelation on how fast this disease has spread over the country. Diabetes can affect every organ in your body, from the brain cells to liver. With the change of life styles – with busy schedules – Western Province has one of the highest records on diabetes patients, while the Uva province has the least amount of patients recorded for diabetes. Tackling diabetes is an easy task. Because diabetes is actually an early symptom of unhealthy living. Specially obesity seen among majority of Sri Lankans with their sedentary lifestyles. So as women how can we adhere to a healthy lifestyle to avoid diabetes? Here are the simplest habits that you can follow.
