Breast cancer is a complex disease with many varieties of presentation. Now there are several ways of treatment and the survival rate is improved from the last century. The NCI (National Cancer institute) reports that 90 percent of women with breast cancer survive 5 years after diagnosis. This survival rate includes all women with breast cancer, regardless of the stage. The breast cancer is the most common form of cancer affecting women. The incidence is growing, with about 2 million new cases worldwide every year. In the United States alone, the American Cancer Society (ACS) predicts that 13 percent of women will develop breast cancer in their lifetime.

The National Cancer Institute estimates that about 276,480 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in 2021, and about 42,170 will die of the disease. Approximately 2% of men also can get breast cancer. In 1995, Zonta club of Botany Bay started the breast care cushion project, when a member, Ms Anne Selly designed it with the input of the breast care nursing stall in Australia. It is also a fact that it is very difficult to recover after a breast surgery. Now this project is widely adopted by many ZONTA clubs, worldwide.
