Also called Sumana, Sumana Saman and Mahasumana, he is the guardian deity of Sri Pada, the sacred mountain with the foot print of Lord Buddha. According to Legends, Sri Lanka is under the protection of the guardian deities Natha, Upulvan, Vibhishana, Kataragama and Saman. Saman is the guardian deity of Sabaragamuwa area and the Sri Pada mountain, which is one of the most sacred places in the country.
