Kataragama, A place of extreme devotion & faith

God Kataragama or Skanda Kumara is worshipped by thousands of Buddhists and Hindu devotees every day. He is said to be the guardian deity of Buddhism in Sri Lanka. Annually thousands of devotees flock to Kataragama to pay homage to God Skanda and receive his blessings for anything of importance that they're doing or about to initiate. Kataragama Deviyo is believed to have resided on the top of the mountain called Wedahiti Kanda, just outside the Kataragama town. Some legends say that God Kataragama originally lived in the Mount Kailash in the Himalayas and later moved to Sri Lanka with his consort Thevani. Once settled in Kataragama he is said to have fallen in love with Valli, a beautiful princess raised by the indigenous Veddha community. Please click on the link below to read full article.,
