Words : Indika Madapatha Sellahewa Photos : Nirmala Dhananjaya Taking nursing in Sri Lanka to greater heights as a treasured profession, saving thousands of lives of accident and emergency patients within seconds by acting lightening fast, she is an epitome of empathy and efficiency. Not sticking to limitations or working by the book, she is a woman who thinks instantly on her feet. She is a nurse who practices the four nursing theories ‘person, environment, health, and nursing’, day in and day out. She is the; Team Leader of the Triage and Information Unit AOS, National Hospital of Sri Lanka and National Co-ordinator (Training) for Trauma System Development and disaster management AOS, NHSL as well as being a visiting Lecturer at the University of Peradeniya and Universities around the country and Internationally. Her responsibilities don't end there as she is also the Head of Cultural and Development Unit, of the Ministry of Health. Pushpa Ramyani De Soyza conducts training for nurses as well as Army, Navy and Air Force. Her specialisations in St. Mary’s University in Japan in Trauma System Development and Disaster management, Trauma Care, Triage , In-service education, Nursing Management, while Specializing in Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation according to the guidelines of the UK Resuscitation Council from the Mahidol University in Thailand, and Specializing in CPR and First Aid under the American Heart Association from The American Academy of CPR and First Aid Inc. as well as Specializing in Crisis Management under the International Visitor Leadership Program (Preventing and responding to disasters) Washington DC , Los Angeles , New Orleans , Oklahoma, Honolulu in Hawai etc. in The United States of America, has brought her to where she is today.
