An innately creative individual from the get-go, Kariyapperuma arms herself with a paint brush and easel to tackle some of the age-old constraints that culture imposes on people.Read on to get to know the story of this young change-maker as she sets herself on a mission to be inspired by the creative elements of the culture she was born into whilst also challenging medieval mindsets that have acted as a barricade to societal change.

Before we delve into the more serious content, let’s bring our readers up to speed by sharing a little bit about your childhood and early school life.

Looking back on my childhood, I would say I was an observant kid on a mission to feed my inner curiosity. This defining trait would come in handy, awakening my creative abilities and shaping many of my life choices up until now. I was born in a small village in Kandy and raised by wonderful parents who were thankfully open-minded. Therefore, from a young age I did observe a disparity between myself and other children. There was an almost mechanical pattern of life they were taught to follow and this was profoundly different to those who lived in the city, so as a child this puzzled me.
