Having transformed itself from a popular women’s tabloid to one of the leading magazines in Sri Lanka, the Lanka Woman steps into its 40th successive year this February. Over the years the Lanka Woman became a household brand as it became popular among women mainly for the opportunity it has provided for women to talk about their talents and achievements in an otherwise patriarchal society. In this article, several of its in-house writers and artistes who were featured in its initial covers recollect their memories with the Lanka Woman while wishing the magazine for its future success.

I’m so happy to be a part of the 40th anniversary celebration of the Lanka Woman magazine. I remember as a kid Lanka Woman was a paper that came out every Wednesday and my mother would buy it and we would as kids look forward to the celebrities in the cover and the fashion page. As teenagers the magazine had so much information that one could get at the time when there was no internet. Back then newspapers played a very big role in shaping our lives in the form of information and current news. Lanka Woman was a paper that was in every household that we knew and definitely in our household as well. Then it turned out to be a magazine and is one of the most elegant magazines we have in Sri Lanka. I’m very happy to have been featured in its cover page on many occasions. These are difficult times for magazines, papers with the internet but yet Lanka Woman holds it’s true values by remaining in the market and providing information to the readers. I wish the entire team the very best.”
