Getting to know the “Hasini effect” Q & A With groundbreaking Sri Lankan scientist Hasini Jayathilaka

7 February 2019 10:56 am Words : Nilu Rajapakse At a very young age, with just 9 years in her field, Hasini’s work has etched her discovery “the Hasini Effect”, in the annals of medical science. She made a tidal wave in the scientific arena when Hasini received global recognition for her revolutionary research in 2017. Explained in layman’s terms, Hasini discovered the mechanisms that cause cancer cells to spread, and also a possible drug treatment that may slow down or even stop cancer cells from spreading. Pretty awesome stuff, and what many, not everyone, have been holding their breath for. Because this brings some much needed hope to those suffering from the terrible disease, as well as relief to their families and loved ones. Hasini has already been in the global news, first when she was selected as a nominee for Forbes’ 30 under 30 list, as a speaker for TEDxMidAtlantic in Washington, DC, and many others since then. Only few can boast of their own hashtag, but hasinieffect, has become a symbol of Hasini’s research.
