Words : Ronali Moonemalle Goonetileke A household name in Sri Lanka and all around the cricketing world, Shashikala Siriwardena is arguably the best women’s cricketer the island nation has produced. Walking out for the last time, the Sri Lankan legend was emotional and so were her teammates but that did not stop her from dishing out an amazing show for her fans! She scripted a fairytale ending after bagging 4 for 16 in her final match against Bangladesh, the best figures in the ongoing T20 World Cup. Debuting at the young age of 18 against the West Indies, Shashikala already had 3 years of international cricket behind her, by the time women’s cricket was taken under the Sri Lankan cricket board. The most capped player for Sri Lanka, she played 118 ODIs for her country scoring 2029 runs and bagging an impressive 124 wickets with a best of 4/11. Playing 81 matches in the shortest format of the game, Siriwardena has 1097 T20I runs to her name along with 77 wickets with her best being an astonishing 4 wickets for just 9 runs against the Pakistanis back in 2018 when the Sri Lankans bundled them up for a mere 72.
